Latham & Watkins' European head of restructuring and special situations has withdrawn an age discrimination claim against the firm, U.K. tribunal documents show.

John Houghton, who was also the former global co-chair of restructuring at the firm, previously brought the discrimination claim against Latham "and others", the employment tribunal documents say.

The proceedings were subsequently dismissed in February after Houghton withdrew his claim, with the decision being published by the U.K. government this month.

A withdrawn claim can mean a settlement between the two parties has been reached, or that the claimant no longer wishes to pursue the action.

Latham & Watkins and John Houghton declined to comment.

Houghton has been at Latham since 2002, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to that, he was a partner at Simmons & Simmons. Houghton remains at Latham in his current position, according to the firm's website and a person with knowledge of the situation.

This is not the first tribunal claim brought by a partner against their firm so far in 2020. Earlier this year, former Rosenblatt partner Noel Deans brought proceedings, which are ongoing, against the firm and its management claiming they discriminated against him and dismissed him unfairly. The firm is contesting the claim.

Winston & Strawn's former head of litigation Michael Madden also brought claims which were subsequently withdrawn against the firm relating to whistleblowing and discrimination.
