Attorney Norm Pattis, who has defended InfoWars host Alex Jones, Monday withdrew his representation of the controversial figure.
Pattis, from New Haven, Conn., declined to comment on the matter, but court records show he filed a motion to withdraw Monday. The Pattis & Smith partner had been lead counsel, representing Jones in two defamation suits by relatives of victims of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The cases—Lafferty v. Jones and Sherlach v. Jones—are pending on the Waterbury, Conn., Superior Court complex litigation docket.
Erica Lafferty was the daughter of Sandy Hook Elementary School principal Dawn Hochsprung, and William Sherlach was married to the school's psychologist, Mary Sherlach. The women were among the 26 individuals—20 students and six educators—killed in the school shooting.
Jones initially said the shooting was a hoax, but has since retracted that statement.
The Lafferty lawsuit calls Jones one of "the most prolific" fabricators of conspiracy theories.
Representing the families are attorneys from the Bridgeport-based Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder. They did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
