WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

TRIAL AND ERROR MESSAGES - No pressure or anything, but Judge Nicholas Chu of Austin is set to conduct Texas’ (and possibly the world’s) first fully virtual jury trial today. The half-day trial in a Class C misdemeanor traffic ticket case will begin at 9 a.m. with jury selection over Zoom. The entire trial will be remote, including the presentation of evidence. Chu, judge of Travis County’s Justice of the Peace Pct. 5 court, expects the trial to wrap up by 1 p.m., although it could run longer if there are technical glitches or delays because of the new format. We’ll watch the trial livestream on YouTube and report on how it went.
