Getting sick with coronavirus might not be enough to pursue a lawsuit—at least according to two federal judges in California who dismissed cases brought by passengers of cruise ships who got COVID-19.

The dismissal rulings last month were among the first in the nation to address two fundamental elements in a case alleging a business’ negligence caused someone to get COVID-19: plaintiff’s injuries, and causation.
