During the pandemic, contracts have taken on an increased prominence, if that were even possible. In-house and outside counsel alike were left poring over agreements to suss out specific deal clauses, force majeure clauses, and the like. And what many found is that, to their utter dismay, finding these key terms was tougher than imagined on a grand scale, given that the number of contracts a large company or law firm deals with on a daily basis.

But the task isn't impossible. Through proper organization of contracts, analysis of the data they provide, and a little help on the side from new and powerful technology, legal departments and law firms can get their tidal wave of contracts under control. It takes some up-front work, but proper contractual analysis can provide time savings—and demonstrable ROI—on the back end if done correctly.

Three-time ILTA Distinguished Peer Award winner Justin Hectus is the CIO of litigation boutique Keesal, Young & Logan and the CIO of KP Labs, a technology company focused on digital transformation.  Justin's areas of focus include maximizing opportunities and managing risk related to new and emerging technologies, and he is currently engaged in such projects with more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies.

At Conduent, Rajesh Bagga is responsible for managing the Contract Analytics solution which entails developing solutions at the intersection of law, AI and analytics; he focuses on assisting clients to monetize the full value of their contract portfolios, including business processes relying upon the contracts. Raj joined Conduent in 2017 as the Director of Contract Analytics and Management and helped develop the Contract Analytics and Legal Invoice Analytics products and solutions. Prior to joining Conduent, Raj practiced law for 12 years in California and Ohio, and led teams of attorneys in managed review and contract analytics for 8 years. Raj served in the United States Navy, and has a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering & Science from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD, magna cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
