Corporate legal departments often rely on alternative legal service providers (ALSPs) to help lighten their load at an affordable and—perhaps more importantly—predictable price point. But cost isn't the only factor that in-house teams are taking into consideration when hiring an ALSP. For starters, diversity and inclusion has become an important consideration as legal departments reexamine all aspects of their workflows, including providers. While many departments might have begun tracking how their ALSPs hire, mentor and promote diverse talent, other aspects of an organization's culture and aptitude may be vetted through trusted colleagues and friends. Reputation still matters, a sentiment that may hold especially true when it comes to how an ALSP leverages technology. Legal teams want to know that a provider can not only bring their own custom solutions to bear, but also conform to those which are already in place inside their departments.
