The lawyers involved in attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election “betrayed the values of our profession,” according to a statement signed by the deans of more than three-quarters of the nation’s law schools.

“Many lawyers and judges worked honestly and in good faith, often in the face of considerable political pressure, to ensure the 2020 election was free and fair,” reads the letter, issued Jan. 12 and signed by 157 sitting law deans. “However, we recognize with dismay and sorrow that some lawyers challenged the outcome of the election with claims that they did not support with facts or evidence.”
