"We all hear about running your law department like a business, and these aren't small spends that we are managing. We need to leverage the data in a way to educate the business about how to identify and mitigate risk." — Mark Smolik, general counsel, DHL

It's comical to hear sports commentators talk about how "analytics" is a new, youth-inspired movement. The business world has been analyzing data for a very long time. It should come as no surprise then that those bringing analytics to the sports world are the business school graduates who are working their way up into the C Suite of sports franchises and bringing analytics with them.

As surprised as some "old-timers" in sports seem to be about the idea of analyzing data, the reaction in law firms has been worse.
