The recent move by several firms to bump starting associate salaries to $200,000 and up has set off a cascade of movement throughout the AmLaw 100, to the delight of associates and dismay of some law firm clients and support staff. Associates "are in a position of power," in a way they haven't been in 20 years, Mahn says.
