The year 2020 was marked by substantial change brought on by the ongoing battle with a global pandemic, the courage shown by many to speak out against systemic racism, and the success of women and underrepresented racial and ethnic populations on the national stage. The most significant being Kamala Harris, who was not only the first woman to be elected as vice president of the United States, but also the first African American/Black American and Asian American/Pacific Islander.

Recently, there have been growing calls for racial and social equity and pledges to address systemic racism. Despite the highs and lows of 2020, which resulted in myriad changes to public policy, movement within the Fortune 1000 general counsel was substantially less, and representation in some areas declined.
