A federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia dismissed criminal charges Friday against two U.S. Park Police officers who shot and killed a 25-year-old motorist in 2017.

Federal Judge Claude M. Hilton agreed that officers Lucas Vinyard and Alejandro Amaya were entitled to “supremacy clause” immunity from prosecution in the shooting because their actions were “necessary and proper under the circumstances” and “there [was] no evidence that the officers acted with malice, criminal intent or improper motivation,” according to court records.
