To assess the prospects of litigation over the fatal shooting on the New Mexico set of the Western movie “Rust,” Law.com asked a trial lawyer who’s had the grim task of filing wrongful death lawsuits over filmmaking tragedies in the past.

“These are probably the most complicated tort cases I’ve ever handled because there are so many facets,” Jeff Harris of Harris Lowry Manton in Savannah and Atlanta told Law.com Thursday. “The talking heads predicting a multimillion dollar plaintiff’s verdict—including some of my own brethren in the plaintiffs’ bar—are skipping over a lot of complicated legal issues.”
