STAFF TURNOVER – Law firms have a lot more to worry about than just losing associates these days. Litigation practices are also facing support staff attrition due to shifts in post-pandemic workplace preferences and a return to more trial work. Justin Henry reports that law firms are deploying flexible schedules and higher pay as recruitment tools for legal assistants. Meanwhile, firms hoping to retain support staff are putting more stock in their workplace satisfaction.

CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS - On Friday afternoon, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted former Trump White House adviser Steve Bannon on contempt of Congress charges over compliance with a subpoena stemming from an investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Attorney General Merrick Garland said the charges reflect his promise that “that the department adheres to the rule of law.” Andrew Goudsward reports that the indictment indicates that the DOJ under Garland is willing to aggressively pursue a contentious political matter involving former President Donald Trump.
