The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit rejected sibling police officers’ claims that they were wrongly stripped of their specialty training positions and passed over for promotions based on what they claimed were their deeply-rooted Christian beliefs.

Officers Reyes Flores and Pat Flores both serve as patrol officers with the Farmington Police Department in New Mexico and worked in department roles, which brought in additional income. Reyes Flores also served as a training officer, an ethics instructor, a field training officer, and was a member of the SWAT team. Pat Flores also oversaw the training academy from 2014 to 2017.
