The IPO prospectus for the newly public electric-truck maker Rivian Corp. included 51 pages of "risk factors." It was enough to send any lawyer—even one inclined to think of a glass as half-full—into a panic.

But that's not how Rivian General Counsel Neil Sitron looks at the world. As he told me in November, "My job is to think through all the risks, but there is always a balance between risk and opportunity. Our job is to capitalize on the opportunities."
