Five years after lawsuits first hit the courts, several high-profile trials over the opioid crisis began in 2021.

The trials have taken place before judges and juries, and in state and federal courts. They involved a mix of cities, counties and states as plaintiffs, and an assortment of defendants generally categorized into three groups: manufacturers and distributors of opiates, and pharmacies.
