Welcome back to Higher Law, our weekly briefing on all things cannabis. I'm Cheryl Miller, reporting for Law.com from Sacramento. We don't talk about Bruno this week, but we do talk about a lot of cannabis-related litigation.

This week we're looking at:

  • The Big Law firms involved in the Ascend v. MedMen NY showdown.
  • Rep. Perlmutter's last shot at a cannabis banking bill.
  • Dentons' work on a $413 million cannabis company transaction.
  • Mississippi's initiation into the legal medical marijuana club.

Thanks as always for reading. I'm happy to receive your feedback or story ideas at [email protected] and call me at 916.448.2935. Follow me on Twitter @capitalaccounts.

Quinn Emanuel Wants Records from NY Governor's Office in Cannabis Deal Dispute

In the latest twist in the legal fight between MedMen and Ascend Wellness Holdings, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan lawyers representing MedMen asked a judge this week for authority to subpoena documents from New York Gov. Kathy Hochul's office.

In a filing with the New York State Supreme Court's Commercial Division, Quinn Emanuel lawyers said they're looking for evidence that Hochul's administration pressed MedMen to close a deal giving Ascend 87% of the marijuana retailer's New York operations.
