Consumer Class Action/Mass Tort Defense

Mary A. Smigielski and Michael J. Roman of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith have entered appearances alongside Seyfarth Shaw partner Gerald L. Maatman Jr. for Evident ID Inc. in a pending data privacy class action. The class action accuses Evident of unlawfully tracking and storing users' biometric and personal data with its identity verification software. The suit was filed Dec. 29 in Illinois Northern District Court by McGuire Law. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Joan H. Lefkow, is 1:21-cv-06911, Smith v. Greenberg Traurig shareholder Mark A. Salky has entered an appearance for Thriving Brands LLC and Henkel Corp. in a pending class action over Right Guard brand deodorant products. The suit, filed Dec. 28 in Florida Southern District Court, claims that the products contain dangerously high levels of the carcinogen benzene. Thriving Brands, which is based in Cincinnati, purchased the Right Guard line of products from Henkel in 2021. The suit was filed on behalf of a nationwide class of consumers by Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Darrin P. Gayles, is 0:21-cv-62573, Soldevilla v.
