Some offers really are too good—or too ridiculous—to be true.

On Friday, Reddit user u/starm4nn posed a hypothetical question to the r/legaladviceofftopic subreddit about the legality of the commonly seen (and commonly memed) Valentine’s Day offer cheekily advertised by some restaurants around Feb. 14. The offer typically goes something like this: “Bring your girlfriend for 20% off, bring your wife for 45% off—bring them both at the same time and dinner’s free.”
