An Iowa jury found physicians were negligent during the delivery of a baby, awarding his family $97.4 million in damages, the largest award in the state's history, the plaintiffs attorneys announced Monday.

Following a three-week trial in the Iowa District Court for Johnson County, the jury found that the defendants, Mercy Hospital and Obstetric and Gynecologic Associates of Iowa City and Coralville, were equally negligent during the birth of S.K., resulting in permanent brain damage, Geoffrey Fieger of Fieger Law said in a statement.
