Despite a Maine school district dropping its mask mandate, a federal judge overseeing a challenge to the policy has refused to dismiss the case as moot, citing the potential for the district to reinstate the mandate at a later date.

On Aug. 27, Scott Fortuna, the father of a junior high student, filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the District of Maine against the Winslow School Board, the school district, and its superintendent, Peter Thiboutot, regarding its blanket masking policy during the COVID-19 pandemic, regardless of vaccination status.
