'Have Someone Answer the Hotline,' And Other Advice from Compliance Pros

If your company is going to set up a hotline for employees to report possible corporate misconduct, it's probably a good idea to have someone pick up the phone when the government calls to test it out.

That was just one piece of compliance advice given out Wednesday as the Women's White Collar Defense Association convened compliance professionals from the government and private sector for a discussion that was held jointly in Washington, D.C., and London.

Vanessa Sisti, an assistant chief in the FCPA unit of DOJ's fraud section who is detailed to the Serious Fraud Office in the U.K., told the audience she has encountered companies that advertise an employee hotline, only to find no one answers the phone when she calls as part of a compliance review.
