The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision jettisoning decades of abortion precedent has triggered a race to federal appellate courtrooms across the nation, where various abortion regulations were paused pending further guidance from the justices.

Lawyers for abortion rights groups in at least six circuits are making what will likely be a mostly symbolic effort to stall enforcement of restrictions and guard reproductive rights in the short term, said professor Lawrence Gostin, a faculty director at Georgetown Law Center’s O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law.
