The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit has rejected a university athletic director’s claim that she was fired for being openly gay.

After the University of Minnesota Duluth relieved Jen Banford of her duties as part-time director of operations for their Division I women’s hockey team, she filed suit against the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota alleging discrimination, according to the appeals court’s Aug. 9 opinion.
