When your work gets hit by a problem, which it will, your chances of ultimate success will depend on three things:

|
  • Recognition: How early you spot an issue.
  • Evaluation: How accurately you assess it.
  • Correction: How effectively you correct it.

Lean Adviser can help you with all of these challenges. We started our look at how to use it with a piece on where to jump in. Then we looked at creating a plan, executing it and monitoring it. As we said in the previous lesson, if you have a good plan and monitor it, you'll spot issues which would otherwise go undetected.

That's recognition, what about evaluation? Legal work is dynamic, uncertain and event-driven. Your work can be hit at any moment from any angle. Or you can make a mistake. Evaluation isn't about how the problem arose or even whose fault it is. It's just an objective, rational analysis of the problem. Nail that and you can identify the correct fix.

On the other hand, if the plan is flawed, or if a significant issue has gone unnoticed or misdiagnosed, then you and your client may be in for an unpleasant surprise.
