Karl Triebel has been selected by the judges of the Washington State Court of Appeals Division II to fill the vacancy of long-serving Commissioner Eric B. Schmidt, the state court announced earlier this month.

Triebel was appointed to the appellate court’s commissioner seat, effective Dec. 1. Appellate court commissioners are judicial officers who perform several judicial duties including resolving parental dependency and termination appeals, deciding procedural matters, and enable the court to hear more cases and reduce delays. They are also subject to the Code of Judicial Conduct.
