Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles and Chicago announced indictments on Wednesday against once prominent plaintiffs attorney Tom Girardi on charges of stealing a total of $18 million from several of his clients.

In Los Angeles, prosecutors alleged Girardi stole $15 million from five clients over a decade ago. He faces five counts of wire fraud, which has a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. Girardi, whom the State Bar of California disbarred last year, is expected to appear for an arraignment hearing on Monday in federal court in Los Angeles.
