The owner of a moving and storage company in Maine has agreed to pay $125,000 and stop using the company’s email to threaten legal action for negative customer reviews, according to a consent judgment and order for injunction filed Jan. 24 in the U.S. district court.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office filed the complaint against Liberty Bell Moving & Storage Inc. and its owner, Kevin V. Finkenaur, over the summer for alleged violations of the federal Consumer Review Fairness Act, the Maine Unfair Trade Practices Act, and regulations for business that engage in interstate moving operations. The company’s website “falsely advertise[d] that ‘[w]e encourage our customers to leave honest reviews of their experience with us,’” the complaint cited.
