JoAnne A. Epps, former Temple Law dean, was appointed and inducted as president of Temple University on Tuesday.

Epps succeeds Jason Wingard, who served as president of Temple University from July 1, 2021, to March 28, 2023, when he resigned abruptly following a contentious seven-week strike by graduate student workers that began in late January, the shooting death of a Temple police officer in February—the first time a Temple University police officer has been shot and killed in the line of duty—and ongoing fears of violence in the North Philadelphia neighborhood where Temple is located, according to Temple’s website and an article in Inside Higher Ed.
