A Boston-based personal injury attorney has been temporarily suspended from practicing law, pending further disciplinary proceedings, after state bar counsel asserted that he’d misappropriated hundreds of thousands of dollars in client funds to support his gambling addiction and to pay off debts.
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court affirmed a temporary suspension of lawyer Benjamin Behnam Tariri that had been previously imposed by a single high-court justice, writing that there was “sufficient evidence … from which the single justice could have concluded that [Tariri] posed a threat to present and potential clients,” quoting a 1987 state ethics opinion in Matter of Kenney.
