The Iowa Supreme Court determined an amendment to the Iowa Code that allowed aggrieved employees to pursue damages beyond those previously permitted didn't apply retrospectively to a plaintiff's claim for wrongful discharge.

Iowa Supreme Court Justice Matthew McDermott authored the June 9 opinion, where the court reversed a district court's granting of summary judgment to Larry R. Hedlund, concluding that the 2019 Iowa Code section 70A.28(5)(a) didn't apply retrospectively to Hedlund's claim for wrongful discharge under 70A.28, Iowa's whistleblower-protection law.
