In response to a Washington state Supreme Court landmark decision that voided the state’s drug possession law as unconstitutional, the state will launch a centralized bureau and online portal to reimburse court-ordered fines and costs paid by those who have had their convictions vacated, according to a court system news release.

On Feb. 25, 2021, the Washington Supreme Court decided State v. Blake, which declared the state’s drug possession law to be unconstitutional and void because it didn’t require people convicted under the law to have knowledge of the drug possession, the release said.
