An Idaho court denied a motion to vacate a nondissemination order in the criminal case of Bryan Kohberger brought by 20 media outlets, including The Associated Press, The New York Times and The Washington Post, by stating that it is not a gag order on the media, but a restriction on the attorneys involved in the case.

The purpose of the order, according to Second Judicial District Judge John C. Judge, is to protect Kohberger’s right to a fair trial under the Sixth Amendment.  Kohberger is charged with the murder of four University of Idaho students. Judge noted that the court has the right to regulate the speech of the attorneys participating in the case and that the parties stipulated to that order.
