Welcome back to Higher Law, our weekly briefing on all things cannabis. I'm Cheryl Miller, reporting for Law.com from Sacramento. Happy Fourth of July—and first day of adult-use marijuana sales in Maryland, for those who celebrate.

This week we're looking at:

  • Preparations for adult-use marijuana in Minnesota.
  • The FDA's guidance for psychedelics trials.
  • Akin Gump's lobbying work for Green Thumb Industries.
  • The launch of Maryland's adult-use market.

Q&A: Minnesota's March Toward Adult-Use Licensing

Earlier this month, Minnesota became the 23rd state to enact a recreational-use marijuana law. The Gopher State has already had a medical-use law on the books since 2014. Now state leaders will embark on a rule-making process to expand the existing market, a process expected to stretch into early 2025.

To find out what will be happening, I recently spoke with Mitchel Chargo, a Minneapolis-based partner at HInshaw & Culbertson who was previously general counsel and executive vice president at cannabis company LeafLine Industries.
