"It is possible [the plaintiff] contracted COVID-19 at work, even though great precautions were taken to prevent the virus's spread there, and even though she could identify no COVID-19-positive patient or coworker with whom she came in contact during the relevant time period," the appeals court wrote. "But it is also possible that she contracted the virus at Wal-Mart or somewhere else..."

The Mississippi Court of Appeals has affirmed the denial of a woman's request for total disability benefits after she claimed to develop blood clots from exposure to COVID-19 as a nurse.
Donna West, a nurse at the Nichols Center Madison, Mississippi, filed a petition to controvert with the Worker's Compensation Commission after testing positive for COVID-19 in June 2020. While awaiting test results, she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection by a MEA medical clinic, according to the appeals court's opinion.
