A federal judge in Maryland has allowed a nearly $9 million verdict to stand, finding a defendant’s allegations that his attorney had a conflict of interest didn’t amount to fraud on the court.

Defendant Jean Agbodjogbe filed a motion seeking relief from the multimillion dollar judgment entered against him following a 2020 jury trial. In the underlying case, plaintiff Alia Salem Al-Sabah brought claims for fraudulent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, breach of agency duties, unjust enrichment, and civil conspiracy, alleging she was misled to believe Agbodjogbe had invested millions of dollars she gave him into real estate properties she would be the owner of.
