When 2023 started, working in the office two to three days a week was the norm, but law firms wanted more. 2023 saw several elite law firms move to require four days in the office, citing the benefits of mentorship, training and cohesiveness, and some firms made headlines for tying office attendance to compensation and bonuses.

But now more law firms appear to have settled into a routine for office attendance, according to interviews with law firm leaders. While some law firms could still move to mandate four days of attendance in 2024, other law firms appear settled on their policies and likely to stay the course with their own office approaches.
