A former U.S. district court judge weighed in on the increase in threats against the nation’s judges, the decline in public confidence in the judiciary, and what can be done to stem the tide of violence against the third branch of government.

Amid reports from Colorado last week that the state’s Supreme Court justices have received threats since issuing their opinion in Trump ballot litigation, an armed gunman broke into the justice center that houses the Colorado Supreme Court, according to news reports. The Denver Police Department said in a press release that the armed gunman who broke into the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center was not associated with the recent threats against the court.
