It’s a perilous time to be a midsize law firm in a legal market where large firms are growing.

Just ask Burns & Levinson, the 64-year-old Boston midsize firm that has lost 46 lawyers since April to the likes of Blank Rome, ArentFox Schiff and Locke Lord. With its head count down to roughly 60 attorneys, the firm is now in merger talks with Am Law 200 firms as well as regional peers, managing partner Paul Mastrocola told the American Lawyer via email.
