As partner pay continues to grow across Big Law, more firms are considering adding “super” points or “super” tiers to their pay systems. One of the latest firms to mull the concept, which generally distinguishes a small number of high-performing partners at a firm, is Latham & Watkins, according to sources.

A firm representative did not respond to requests for comment on the subject. But industry sources have said the No. 2-ranked firm has discussed the idea; that its pay system is broken down into points, and that at least with annual bonuses, there are partners at the firm who can make more than $20 million. Financial News in London also reported this month that a proposal to add super points would get some star performers north of $20 million.
