The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has granted final approval of a $15 million class action settlement resolving a decadeslong complaint accusing the government of discriminating against Black Americans in its hiring and promotional practices for deputy U.S. Marshal positions.

Sanford Heisler Sharp as class counsel and the U.S. Marshals Service announced the settlement approval Monday in separate press releases confirming the EEOC administrative judge’s final decision.
