Minnesota became the eighteenth state to pass the state data privacy statute, the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act (MCDPA)—and is nearing a year’s mark from when it goes into effect on July 31, 2025.

The MCDPA is the sixth such law to pass just this year  keeping the states paces ahead of a proposed federal data privacy bill, the American Privacy Rights Act, that is still floundering in the U.S. Congress.
