Mary O’Carroll, who in 2008 became Google’s first legal-ops professional and has been a leader in the legal-ops field since, is joining the Am Law 100 law firm Goodwin Procter as chief operating officer.

Joining Boston-based Goodwin represents a return to Big Law for O’Carroll, who is not a lawyer but has a business administration degree from the University of California, Berkeley. From 2003 to 2008, O’Carroll was strategy and operations manager at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, a post that reported to the COO.
