A federal judge blocked the enforcement of a New Hampshire law banning transgender girls from playing on school sports teams Tuesday, citing concerns that its implementation could discriminate against transgender students in violation of Title IX and the U.S. Constitution.

District Judge Landya McCafferty of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire said House Bill 1205 ”on its face, discriminates against transgender girls,” and said the bill’s “disparate treatment of transgender girls because they are transgender is clear on the face of the statute” and that “singling out of transgender females is unequivocally discrimination.” The case is captioned Parker Tirrell, et al. v.
