A federal judge in Chicago sided with the makers of popular water brand Evian, shooting down claims that the company mislabeled its spring water as "natural" because of the alleged presence of microplastics.

U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin in the Northern District of Illinois granted Danone Waters of America's motion to dismiss plaintiffs Michael Daly and Michael Dotson's claims that the company violated Illinois and California state consumer fraud statutes by falsely claiming its Evian spring water is "natural." In Daly v. Danone Waters of America, the court determined that the plaintiffs' claims were preempted by federal regulation, according to a Tuesday decision.
