A federal judge in Missouri concluded that Uber couldn't be held liable for the fatal shooting of a Lyft driver during a carjacking, concluding that Uber was not required to pass along information about dangerous riders to its competitor.

In a Nov. 13 opinion, U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Clark for the Eastern District of Missouri granted Uber Technologies' motion to dismiss a negligence claim brought on behalf of a deceased Lyft driver, Elijah Newman, who also drove for Uber. In Newman v. Uber Technologies, the plaintiffs accused Uber of negligence, claiming that the platform knew one of its riders had committed prior armed carjackings but failed to share that information with Lyft.
