A seller of electronic accessories contracted to fill premium retail space at a major pharmacy chain was hit with sanctions after its counsel lodged hundreds of objections during the deposition of its own witness who provided "virtually no knowledge" of the relevant litigation.

On Wednesday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Keri L. Holleb Hotaling of the Northern District of Illinois granted Walgreen Co.'s motion for sanction against Zeikos for allowing an unprepared witness to testify during a Sept. 30 deposition in a business deal dispute captioned Zeikos v. Walgreen.

During a seven-hour deposition Sept. 30, Stephen Goldstein, a purported corporate representative of Zeikos, could not provide any substantial information identified in a deposition notice, the court said. Additionally, Zeikos' counsel objected hundreds of times, according to the judge's opinion and order.
