After 657 days of discovery and nearly a half-dozen deadline extensions, a federal magistrate judge in Illinois reminded the attorneys involved that while the character Mr. Rogers may like to highlight the beauty of moving slow in his song "I Like to Take My Time," such concepts do not apply to the world of litigation.

In a Dec. 6 opinion, U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Cole for the Northern District of Illinois denied Members 1st Federal Credit Union's motion to compel counter-defendants B2 Bank and Lincoln Savings to produce complaint logs, revenue reports, and related correspondence in a trademark dispute. Discovery deadlines have been extended numerous times since the exchanges began in January 2022, and the seventh discovery deadline was set for July. Cole said he was certain the parties would have completed their work given the extra time.
