The total dollar value of class action and mass tort settlements dropped in 2024 but continued to surpass $40 billion for the third year in a row.

That’s according to the Duane Morris Class Action Review 2025, which calculated total settlements at $42 billion last year, down from $51.4 billion in 2023 and $66 billion in 2022. The decrease comes as many of the largest cases, such as opioids and “forever chemicals,” wrapped up last year, said Duane Morris partner Gerald Maatman, co-author of the 650-page report, which analyzed about 1,440 cases.
