A former U.S. Department of Education attorney consented to a 30-day suspension after it was discovered she was removed from the attorney roll in Illinois because she failed to complete her minimum continuing education credits.

Lauren Elizabeth Moynihan worked for the Office for Civil Rights within the Department of Education from 2006 to 2023, investigating complaints of federal civil rights violations in education. She continued to perform this work after May 2021, when the Supreme Court of Illinois's Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission administrator removed her name from the roll of attorneys authorized to practice law in Illinois, according to the commission's petition to the high court. Moynihan also completed interviews and reviewed documentation for cases involving recipients of federal financial assistance and members of the public, the commission said.
